I can’t remember if we are aloud to collect feathers here in West Virginia. I’m thinking it’s illegal on other properties other than your own. I’ll have to look into that.
Technically it is illegal to gather feathers at the federal level in the US. Possession of wild bird parts is considered a violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. It would almost never be enforced on something small like a personal collection of feathers you found on the ground but it is illegal.
Yeah thanks for sharing your knowledge always appreciated .

Thank you.
Like @caterpillar511, I am also not allowed to use Discord.
I do not, but I used to extensively collect birds’ nests post-breeding season.
You’re welcome!
I’m sorry. Thanks for letting me know .
You’re welcome! We’ll still be able to participate in the Bird of the Week poll on this thread, right?
Umm . That’s up to the moderators. @astra_the_dragon should we continue the Bird of the Week poll?
yes, go ahead. we want to encourage nature talk.
I’ve got the bird of the week. It’s only a common house sparrow, but at least close.

Ok thanks!
Nice job !
I have a little collection of feathers of a few common birds where I live, chachalacas, grackles, eurasian collared-doves, a pygmy-owl feather, a green jay wing feather, a parrot chest feather I picked just when it fell from the parrot, and an unidentified feather I think too.
That’s probably the best, cutest photo of a chonky little house sparrow I’ve ever seen.
I’ve got a few peacock feathers, a brahminy kite flight feather, a metallic unidentified waterbird’s feather and an too many pigeon feathers.
Thanks for this praise :-)
