Exactly. Because of that, I generally just do obscured, unless I’m out somewhere else.

I still have a city with a small population so no one needs to know it and if I obscure it I’m pretty sure it shows my city so yeah.

Just the other day I’ve visited Prundu Lake, a cool birdwatching place:

Probably my favorite birding destination in my county: grebes, swans, pochards, cormorants and other birds I couldn’t take a good photo of: moorhens, mallards and others! Honestly I can’t wait for the summer to come back there!

Yesterday I made a second attempt at some Thick-billed Longspurs that have been hanging out in Sutter County in the shadow of the Sutter Buttes. It was a beautiful day with a Burrowing Owl on the levee when we arrived and a Prairie Falcon that made a pass over the field of Horned Larks. Eventually we found two of the Thick-billed Longspurs among the massive lark flock and even got to see the very distinctive black inverted T pattern on the white tail. So cool.

Great news: My bird pools are now fully back in business! After the winter, all of my local birds are visiting regularly. Plus, now my visitors are not just limited to birds, but mammals too!

Is there any bird of the week yet? I’ve seen a massive flock around and I’m curious if I can complete the challenge this week!

Hey I’m so sorry . I’ve been very busy lately. I’ll leave the Bird of the Week below, since forgot to make a poll.

Bird of the Week
Wrens

Sometime this week try to find the bird of the week. Finding the Bird of the Week gets us exploring the great outdoors. We also learn more about the birds. Be sure to study their behaviors while observing them. Be sure to share with us what behaviors you saw.
PS: Sorry friends. I’ve been very busy this past weekend. I hope you still have fun exploring the great outdoors. Until then happy birding!

So far a extremely hyper squirrel, a less hyper squirrel, and a gigantic, chonky cat have visited. I’m pretty optimistic that more species will visit, mostly because the peak summer where the most species are awake is approaching.

Thanks! I wasn’t able to get a good photo, but this is probably the rarest bird I’ve seen. The crest can fan out, like a hand-fan!

LOL I saw a wren yesterday.

Lovely! I’ve only seen the central european subspecies in my yard, but I didn’t take a proper picture yet… they still visit me now and then so maybe I’ll get a good picture someday :)

Are the cats “pests” where you are?

Where I am, the breeding season for the Superb Fairy Wren is sort of at its end, being the end of Summer, so a little while ago, the males had their breeding plumage which is very beautiful. So I’ve seen plenty of wrens! :) And they’re not very hard to find!

Is it a different species than “my” European hoopoe Upupa epops? Once I have seen it with a raised crst for just a moment: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/201173620
