Bulk photo upload not working

Platform: iOS 18.5

App version number, if a mobile app issue: 1.0.4

Screenshots of what you are seeing: It won’t let me upload here, either. I click the photo button and it just jumps the screen upward a bit.

Description of problem: I can upload a single photo from my photos library as a new observation, but if I try to bulk upload more than one, it gets stuck on the loading screen (blank white screen with a green line scrolling across the top). I can go back into an observation and add more photos later, but this is a pain when trying to log several observations from a nature walk.

Step 1: Tap the + button

Step 2: Select the photo library icon

Step 3: Select two or more photos

Step 4: Tap “Add”

Result: Stuck on white loading screen indefinitely, have to restart the app to do anything.

I have tried disabling my VPN, ad-blockers, and other security features, and have also tried cellular data vs. wifi, with no luck. I’ve been using iNaturalist for years on several different devices and have never had an issue uploading until today.

I also tried uploading more than one photo in the iNat Classic app, and have the same problem.

Hmm.

  • what sort of permissions are you giving to the apps? It shouldn’t matter, but it would be good to rule it out anyway.
  • are you using iCloud Photos to backup your photos?
  • are you shooting the photos in RAW format?

I haven’t changed any settings or permissions at all. I’ve been using the old app for years and the new app since it came out, and have been able to upload as many photos as I wanted until just recently (literally just this week it started). I can double check my permissions, though.

I do use iCloud, but again, I always have. I’m not seeing any errors regarding my photos app or iCloud syncing.

I usually do shoot in RAW format, which has always uploaded fine. And again, I can upload ONE photo at a time without issue, but if I try to upload that same photo plus one more, it’s a no-go, so it doesn’t seem like it’s a format issue unless iNat has some sort of new file size limit or something.

ETA: Not seeing anything weird in my permissions.

Oh goodness, it appears I committed the biggest tech support crime…I didn’t try turning it off and on again. That fixed it! Apologies for the false alarm!
