Me gustaría saber si ustedes tienen dificultades buscando proyectos desde el celular. No sé si soy sólo yo, pero cuando ingreso a la pestaña de proyectos en el app, hay tres categorías: Unido, Cercano y Destacado, y arriba hay una lupita para buscar proyectos tradicionales.
Cuando intento buscar un proyecto para unirme, siempre me aparece: “No se han encontrado resultados” y esto me dificulta la logística para que las personas suban una observación a un proyecto en específico, porque se tienen que unir primero desde la computadora. No se si tendrá que ver con el internet, o es un bug, por eso les consulto.

When I search for projects it only returns the ones created by other users signed in under that portal.

If I click on “View projects from everywhere” (may be different wording for your portal) then it adds the projects that were created by people through other portals including the global one (iNaturalist.org)

Participants of our bioblitz trying to find the project had difficulty, so now we always create the project from the portal (iNaturalist.nz) rather than global or other portal (eg iNaturalist.org). I don’t have the iNaturalist application on my phone (I dropped my phone down the toilet while trying to observe a spider!) so I can’t check, but there should be a way to change the search to show “All Projects”. If there is not, then perhaps @tiwane can let you know how to find it.

Hola kiwifergus! Si, cuando busco los proyectos desde la laptop no tengo problemas. Es solo que cuando doy talleres a guardaparques o personas jóvenes, ellos generalmente no tienen laptop, entonces se me hace mas complicado dar el taller. Si desde el celular se pudieran observar los proyectos con el buscador sería genial.
El proyecto busca datos de animales atropellados en Costa Rica, por lo que le pido a las personas que si ven un animal atropellado, lo suban al app y lo coloquen en el proyecto https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/fauna-atropellada-en-carreteras-de-costa-rica. Pero a la hora de buscarlo con la lupa desde el celular, no les aparece.
Si tuvieramos iNaturalist Costa Rica, una solución sería incluir el proyecto en “Destacados”. Pero todavía no tenemos la plataforma.
PS: Siento lo del celular, espero que la araña haya valido la pena!
I have to go and pack for travelling to our bioblitz this weekend. If someone else hasn’t helped you with this by Monday next week I will have another look and see what I can figure out for you. In the mean time, can you copy your screen of the settings like in my first pic? It will show if you are through a portal.
The spider was not worth it, but the funny story was!

Hi @tiwane. I use android. So @aztekium already answered me that you have to join a project (you have to search it in the laptop) so it can appear in the app. Have you guys thought of making traditional projects searchable in the app? It might be a lot of info for an app, but just asking.
Ya @aztekium me contestó que lo mejor es buscar el proyecto desde la laptop y unirse desde ahí para que aparezca en el celular. No se si han pensado en hacer que los proyectos tradicionales puedan ser encontrados desde el app celular, para facilitar la participación de gente que no esta muy involucrada en iNat o no tiene laptop. Tal vez sea muy pesado para el app, pero solo pregunto :)
Traditional projects should be searchable in the app, on the Projects section. This is taken when logged-in as my test account, which is affiliated with Naturalista.mx:
@tiwane We encountered this issue again with our bioblitz this weekend just gone. The coordinator for the biobltz created the project while she was logged in through iNaturalist.org, and participants on the day that had their iNat account pointing to iNaturalist.nz in their settings were not able to find the project when they searched for it. I Showed them how to change their settings to the global portal, then go back and search for the project, join it, and then go back and re-change their account settings to New Zealand portal.
In the website, you can select “Show projects from everywhere” and it solves the problem, but the app doesn’t have that option. Most participants were downloading the app at the start of the event, and so only had the app for access to joining the project. When they download the app, they are asked if they want their portal to be iNaturalist.nz, which they logically respond yes to, and then they have to unset that, join the project, and then set it back again, and they have to be walked through that process! It’s a very frustrating “first experience of iNaturalist” for them.
It’s not so much a problem now for this bioblitz, as it is over. More that it will be the same problem for any project created under similar circumstances
