Would African Caper White (Belenois Creona) be interchangeable with Southern African Caper White when seen in Kenya? Discussion came up while IDing a group of butterflies. Sorry, I do not have a photo.
iNaturalist lists Southern African Caper White as the common name for the subspecies, Belenois creona ssp. severina. (Another of those naming conventions: the genus is capitalized, but the species and supspecies are not.) So not quite interchangeable: a Southern African Caper White is an African Caper White, but not all African Caper Whites are Southern African Caper Whites.
Thank you so very much. That is what we were wondering. My fault for the capitalization error, and I knew that wasn’t right - very sorry! We appreciate the information and your time and effort.
