Is there a database like gallformers for leaf-mining insects that includes California (i.e. you can search for a host plant and see all the species that mine the leaves)? If not, it seems like a fun and worthwhile thing to start making.

Take a look at the Leaf Miners of North America project and read the journal entries for that project. Charley Eiseman has done incredible research on this topic.
