Can Collection Projects include only observations from active participation periods?

Hi,

I am trying to set up a Collection Project with some specific requirements, and I am running into a challenge with how observations are included.

Project Parameters:

  • Geographic scope: Entire state (some members will be traveling to different locations within it)
  • Duration: ~75 days (or thereabouts)
  • Membership: By invitation only, with some members joining at different times throughout the project period and being on the “project” for only a part of the operiod
  • Some members will participate for the full duration, while others will join for shorter intervals

The Challenge: Members who participate for only part of the project period may continue making observations in the same state during the same timeframe, but outside their period of involvement with the project. Since Collection Projects automatically include observations that meet the geographic and time period temporal criteria, these “outside-of-project” observations from part time participants would be included even though they were not made during their active project membership.

I would prefer not to use a Traditional Project because of the higher barriers to inclusion (requiring manual submission/approval).

My Question: Is there a way to selectively include only the observations made during each member’s active participation period, while excluding their other observations from the same state and timeframe? Or are there alternative project structures that would better suit these needs?

Look forward to advice

PS - yes i did check some of the other threads and have not come across a solution. (and the solutions that present it self are complicated - like setting up and umbrella project and collating indvidual segments, or creating a new / back up user for just that period). So I hope there is an easier solution

Sounds to me like the easiest solution is to use a traditional project rather than a collection project

Can’t do this within a single collection project. You could make a separate collection project for each participant and put them all under an umbrella project, but that would be a lot of work.
