Description of problem:

Step 1: Upload a bunch of observations, including two of the same species that I want to link, a casual observation of a planted tree and a ‘normal’ observation of a seedling.

Step 2: Go to the Identify page to annotate them all.

Step 3: Realise that despite the page being set to show Casual, Needs ID and Research Grade, only the Needs ID observation is appearing.

I realise that it’s quite possible I’m missing something obvious, but I can’t see any reason why the Casual observation wouldn’t be showing up - I just know it isn’t. If I’m missing something obvious, I apologise in advance.

have you toggled that ‘reviewed’ checkbox on and off?

I think this is always checked if the Reviewed button is set to either “any” or “yes” in the filters.

The URL includes the string ‘&verifiable=true’ - I think that could be the problem. Have you tried deleting that or replacing true with false?

I hadn’t because they’re all ‘reviewed’ because I uploaded them all, and all at the same time. But I’ve tried it now and it didn’t make any difference.

I deleted that and it made it appear, thanks. So how does that interact with ‘Casual’? And does that mean I should (a) mark this not a bug or (b) mark that as the solution?

(BTW, I did look briefly at that but ended up concluding I thought it was about whether there was missing photo or metadata, partly because it seemed to be different from ‘Casual’. I should have just tried it anyway…)

Verifiable includes Needs ID and Research Grade, but not Casual. I’m not sure how it ended up in the URL and if that constitutes a bug. Did you start with the Identify window or with a default Explore search converted to Identify format? Explore by default starts with ‘verifiable=true’ and it has to be unchecked in the Explore filters to include casual observations. There is no check box for casual in Explore, only one for captive (which is included in casual but only a subset of it).

It’s a tab I’ve had open for a while, but now I think about it, I probably started in Explore to exclude things like fungi I didn’t want to annotate. So I’m guessing that’s where it’s from. There really are some weird (to me) differences between Explore and Identify.
