I am writing as I contemplate adding some common names for the plants in this region, but I am unsure of the best way to do so or if it is even worth it. I have sources to support the names I am familiar with at hand. However, my quandary is that many of the names are not specific to one country. The creoles are distinct with some overlap, but some of the indigenous languages are shared across borders. Should I assign the language without specifying the location? Perhaps I am overcomplicating a non-issue.
It’s perfectly fine to add names that aren’t associated with specific places. Many (most?) names aren’t attached to specific places.

Definitely add the common names.
If one is used in a particular place, add that info.
It is important that people can search for and find the names that they use.

Just to clarify, places should only be added if there are multiple names for a lexicon and the most common usage varies by place. Otherwise, keeping the names general (ie just assigned to their lexicon) is usually the best approach as unnecessary associations with places can cause issues.
