Ditto . Drives me to despair. Once I dropped an envelope of cash in an organizers mail slot and asked it be put to good use - however seemed fitting.’
That’s exactly it! The two organizations I mentioned are botanical societies. Both show up in my OrcID profile.
I think it’s also a guaranteed lump sum. For the Coleopterist’s Society for instance, it’s $60/year (currently) or $1500 lifetime. So that’s essentially a pre-pay on 25 years. A lot of folks might not always remember to pay, might pass away, etc. And most people with the interest and ability to pay for lifetime are probably in their 30s or above, so they aren’t necessarily maximizing the “lifetime” aspect. 25 years guaranteed is probably a pretty good deal for the society I would think (they can invest the money if they want!). Now if you have an undergrad who knows that they want to be a coleopterist and can invest in a lifetime membership when they are 20 years old, that would be an amazing deal for the undergrad/coleopterist!
I donated a lump sum to the Nature Conservancy that gave me a lifetime membership. That was maybe 30 years ago. Hasn’t stopped them from soliciting additional donations on a regular basis since then.
I would simply like to know how to contact someone at iNaturalist. My bank account was recently hacked by a sham company I purchased a product from through an ad on Facebook. Upon reviewing the fraudulent charges to my card and cancelling my bank card, I was updating my automatic pay vendors and saw iNaturalist listed as a recurring payment. I never make recurring donations. Only one time donations (over and over! Lol). I can’t seem to find contact information to reach someone who could help me in this situation.
I would email help@inaturalist.org and explain your situation. They can probably direct you.
