I am using chrome in both cases.
If you go to “explore” page and type “Georgia” in location, you will see very different results in laptop browser and the same browser on iphone.
Looks like laptop version is using “Custom boundary” which is just rectangular and vast territory of Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan etc goes into it.
Meanwhile in mobile browser version the border of Georgia is correct and also isn’t shown as Georgia instead of “custom boundary”.
I think you should change this rectangular custom border into correct borders of Georgia in laptop version.

You should use the search filter instead of the “powered by Google” search bar.
I think users deserve to see the adequate result when choosing Georgia, just the way it works correctly in the mobile version browser
Welcome to the forum!
It works correctly on desktop if everything is running in English. I’m not sure exactly what setting you have that is running Google Maps in another language, but with the iNat interface itself still in English, but that’s what’s causing the issue.
This is a long-standing problem having to do with how information is passed back and forth between Google Maps and iNaturalist that unfortunately I think is unlikely to be fixed until the entire Explore page is redone.
Until that happens, please use Filters → More Filters → Place
