Edit License on Observation seems to be non-working

On this observation - https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/36379760

I have used ‘Edit > Edit License’ and confirmed I have it set to “No license (all rights reserved)
You retain full copyright over your content aside from those rights granted to iNaturalist in our Terms of Service.”

However, the image still shows the license as CC0, which is the exact opposite.

I’ve tried reloading the page, no change.

I use this edit feature a lot on individual observations like this. In this case, I know the photographer personally and he gave me permission to post on iNaturalist. However, I like to set the photo to all-rights-reserved to ensure their photo is not used more broadly than they have allowed of me.

Am I missing something?

Ah, I was. Turns out editing the license on the observation does not edit the license on the photo. You have to click the “Info” box on each photo and change the photo licenses one-by-one.

That kind of still seems like a bug - changing the observation license should IMO change the license on all photos associated with the observation - thoughts?

I assume that the observation license applies only to the data itself, not the photo (and it’s useful to be able to have freely licensed data even if the picture is copyrighted). That said, I’d expect to be able to change the copyright of the images from the same place as the copyright of the observation, for ease of use.

There’s an open request here for improving this system: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/improve-viewing-editing-copyright-information-on-observations/308

If you want to adjust all your photo licenses at once, you can do this in your account settings: https://www.inaturalist.org/users/edit
