Description of problem (please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.):
When I upload observations into the project Interaction (s Afr), from the app, then, instead of just uploading the observation field of the particular interaction relevant, it also uploads all the other empty observation fields into the web version as well. this creates a problem for the people evaluating and assessing the data, and I was asked by one of them to go back and delete all those empty fields. highly cumbersome. Better if the app could add for the interaction project just the actual observation field that I filled in, and not also all the other empty ones.

These were the steps I followed on the app, and then when I look at the webversion, then all the empty observation fields for the interaction project sits there, and needs to be deleted manually.

Any progress on the above?

Sorry, the above problem can be far simpler described as

ANDROID APP INCORRECTLY ADDS UNFILLED IN FIELDS WHEN ADDING PROJECTS

On the Android App, when one adds a project with several fields, the app adds all the fields even when they are not required or desired.
The iPhone App and the Webpage only add the filled in fields and not the others.

This affects projects where different fields are used for different things. In the case of the interactions project only one of several options should be used: e.g. for https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/156251928
The user wanted to only add “passive partner” but instead we have
Interactions (s Afr)

Observation Fields (8)

Passive Partner to: (Interaction): https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/156251917
Associated with: (Interaction):
Attached to: (Interaction):
Carrying: (Interaction):
Eating: (Interaction):
Parasitizing: (Interaction):
Visiting a flower of: (Interaction):

Unfortunately, Project curators cannot remove these superfluous fields.
Nor [I think] can one filter for fields that are not empty - so it is messing up the reports for the interactions (e.g. “Parasitizing” observations are showing up on filters for “Visiting a Flower”)

We are having the same issue with projects summarizing vegetation types. Instead of adding a single filled in field, this Android bug is adding many: This is overwhelming the system. For instance - in this case there are more empty fields (as shown for?): than there is valid data.

Observation field: SA Veg: Albany Thicket & Strandveld Types

Choose only one vegetation type from one of these (Thicket above, Strandveld below - note that these are the new 2018 types):
Datatype: text
Allowed values:

? 3295
Albany Arid Thicket AT 15 1
Albany Bontveld AT 16 38
Albany Mesic Thicket AT 17 268
Albany Valley Thicket AT 18 7
Baviaans Valley Thicket AT 19 468
Bethelsdorp Bontveld AT 20 0
Blombos Strandveld FS 8 33
Buffels Mesic Thicket AT 21 0
Buffels Valley Thicket AT 22 0
Cape Flats Dune Strandveld FS 6 1194
Crossroads Grassland Thicket AT 23 19
Doubledrift Karroid Thicket AT 24 2
Eastern Gwarrieveld AT 25 3
Elands Forest Thicket AT 26 0

Should I rather post this as a new “bug” entry?

An unrelated issue is that curators of projects cannot edit fields when users (such as this one) have blocked them and use the project.
