Florida Kingsnake Taxon Change

Now, I may be wrong, but I thought that the kingsnakes in FL were classified as Florida Kingsnakes ( L. getula floridana). Someone also asked this here and about 2 weeks ago I saw sometime saying that the Florida Kingsnake was no longer an active taxon, but when I search Florida Kingsnake observations, it defaults to the Eastern Kingsnake.

So what I’m trying to say is, are the Eastern Kingsnake and the Florida Kingnsnake the same thing?

You can see in the taxonomic authority list that iNat follows Reptile Database for reptile taxonomy. Reptile DB is not currently recognizing subspecies of L. getula, nor is it recognizing the Florida Kingsnake at the species level.

For more taxonomic information, you can check the taxon change history and flags on the taxon page.

In this case, you can see Scott merged the subspecies following Reptile DB in May 2019.

You can also see that there is a request to add it back at the species level.
