I used to often go through lists, google searches, and so on looking for funny/weird animal names. I have made quite a few lists already, and I thought I would make a post here to see if some of you know some good ones. plants and fungi also welcome :) Here are some of my favorites that I can fin…

Oh, and my family calls Double-Creasted Cormorants Batman Birds and Crested Ducks (breed) Princess Leia Ducks.

I think ‘‘yellow crowned warbler’’ would be better.

I’ve heard Butter Butt used for Green-winged Teal but not for the warbler.

I hear it used regularly for Yellow-rumped Warbler but wasn’t aware anyone was using the name for Green-winged Teal.

Same as @raymie I’ve heard the name ‘‘butter butt’’ for the warbler, but not for the teal.

@karen5lund Actually, that silly lil’ nickname is actually pretty common.

Yeah, maybe it’s a local thing that I heard among duck hunters. I don’t see it used on the Web for the teal but definitely for the warbler.
