GBIF icon appearing on RG observations only after a data quality assessment field is unchecked and rechecked?

Hi!

Most of my research grade observations are on GBIF, which is cool to see, but I have just now noticed that the GBIF logo is not appearing on those observations on the iNat page unless I uncheck and recheck a quality assessment field, or select “No, it’s as good as it can be” under the improvement query at the bottom of the page. After I do this, the GBIF link appears.

Any idea why this might be, or what I can do to help get the GBIF link on my research grade observations that are included in that database?

This same issue has been brought up before (e.g., https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/contribution-to-gbif/46227/8) but unfortunately I haven’t found any more information.

What are some URLs of these observations?

I just did a test and found the same to be true for some of my observations.

GBIF: https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/5104327731
inat: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/240843077 (no GBIF link visible to me)

GBIF: https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/5104365602
inat: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/232490674 (no GBIF link visible to me)

Thanks. Did you recently update the licenses on your observations?

Here’s another where the GBIF link has just appeared now after I have unchecked and rechecked one of the assessment fields:

https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/5104299560
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/231656271

A few months back, but I can’t remember exactly when.

Hmm, OK. So I may be wrong about this, but if you go to https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/5104327731 and scroll down, it looks like the observation may have been only ingested into GBIF a few weeks ago:

It can take a few weeks between an observation being ingested by GBIF and the icon appearing on the observation on its own, the script we use is slow. By forcing an observation to reindex like you’re doing, you may be causing iNat to manually fetch that link with GBIF, thus making the icon appear now.

I see, thanks for that, I hadn’t realised that’s how it works. Looks like I updated the licenses much more recently than I had remembered!
