Getting notifications for @ mentions when I was not mentioned

Description of problem: I got a notification that an user had mentioned me in the most recent observation of the week journal post which I followed to see the comments, but didn’t comment on myself. However, when I clicked the notification I saw that another user was mentioned but not me.

This isn’t the first time this has happened. The same thing happened earlier this morning. I got a notification when an user mentioned another user (not me) on an observation I had identified.

This happened twice, yesterday and today. I had added IDs to the two observations, but the user mentioned someone else.

This happened to me too earlier today. I chalked it up to them tagging me and then editing their comment to tag someone else, but now it’s starting to seem like a pattern.

I also thought they had used the wrong @mention and corrected it.

This type of false notification shows up in my feed about once or twice per year. I’ve never figured out why it happens. It seems to be a periodic glitch in certain journal posts…by anyone. This may have been the subject of a past Bug Report but I can’t find it.

This was related to a bug introduced yesterday. Some notifications in the last day or so might give the wrong reason. Apologies for that. We just released a fix for that so hopefully notifications going forward report the correct reason for notifying. Thanks for alerting us to the problem.

Interesting! I’ve had 5 or 6 of these in the last day, and as others have, just assumed someone had incorrectly named me then fixed it before I saw it. But it was surprising to have so many at once. Nice to know it was a bug and might be OK now.

For Journal Posts, I had something similar happen before yesterday. I got a notification for an @-mention I had already gotten months ago.

i think you all are describing a separate known issue:

Yup. That seems to fit my case pretty well.
