Good cameras for elementary age kids?

I volunteer with a local elementary school and would like to buy a couple of (relatively) inexpensive cameras for the kids to use for an after-school nature project. Having a bit of trouble researching this because online info on kids’ cameras seems to focus on how cute the camera is, rather than things like ease of use, quality of photos, etc. I apologize if this has been discussed elsewhere and I missed it, but I would really like to hear about your experiences with kids and cameras.

The Fujifilm Finepix XP series might be a good place to look! A lot are sold second hand and they are harder to break than most cameras.

I work at a children’s museum, and have had kids photograph bugs, flowers, etc. with outdated smart phones. They are inexpensive, easy to replace, relatively hard to break, and kids already know how to use them. It is relatively easy to get outdated cell phones donated. They aren’t good for photographing birds or other things far away, but neither is any other camera that meets the above criteria.

You could also try older Olympus Tough cameras.
