Help. I am looking for photos of the genus Disocactus for Wikipedia

I’ve been writing about cacti and other succulents on Wikipedia for some time now, and I’m trying to ensure that every article includes a photo of the plant being discussed.

That’s why I need your help. I’m immersed in updating the Disocactus genus and need photos of the following species:

  • Disocactus blomianus
  • Disocactus eichlamii
  • Disocactus heterodoxus
  • Disocactus hondurensis
  • Disocactus lepidocarpus
  • Disocactus lodei
  • Disocactus quezaltecus
  • Disocactus salvadorensis

If anyone has any and could upload them, I’d be eternally grateful. It doesn’t matter if it’s a cultivated plant. The important thing is to have a photo of the species. The photographs be in the “Public Domain CC0”, “Attribution CC-BY”, or “Attribution-ShareAlike BY-SA” so that Wikipedia can access them.

In this way, we seek to promote the dissemination of knowledge about cacti and facilitate their identification through high-quality visual resources accessible to all.

Of course, all photos will appear with your authorship and a link to your profile.
To change the license, the path to follow would be:

  • Settings.
  • Default license.
  • Change licenses for existing observations, photos, and sounds. And there, select one of these three options, which are associated with Wikimedia:

Public Domain CC0”, “Attribution CC-BY”, or “Attribution-ShareAlike BY-SA"

ALSO IMPORTANT! You must apply this option to the photos you’ve already uploaded. To do this, on the same settings page, select:

Change licenses for all existing photos”.

And there, select one of these three options again, which are associated with Wikimedia:Public Domain CC0, Attribution CC-BY, or Attribution-ShareAlike BY-SA

If you have any questions, please write to me. Thank you very much.

By the way, I’m Spanish, sorry if my English isn’t very good.

You might reach more people for your project if you contact people who have relevant photos on iNaturalist itself, since only a fraction of users read the forums.

Hi, thank you very much. Sisi, whenever I see an interesting photo, I always write to the person in question. But most of these don’t have a single comment :(

Hi @cactus7, the forum is intended more for holding discussions about iNaturalist or related nature topics rather than broadcasting a request for a project you’re working on. Like suggested above I would recommend reaching out to people who have either observed these species already or would have a high likelihood of being able to take the photos you are requesting, for example maybe they have observed other similar species in its habitat. You could use the messaging system, comments on observations, or a journal post for coordinating.

Hello. Yes, yes, thank you very much. Anyway, I don’t think I’m hurting anyone by asking for help here, in case anyone could help me. I’m sorry if this isn’t the right place. As I’ve already said, I usually contact the author of the photos. But in this case, most of them don’t have any comments. Thanks for your advice anyway. I’ll ask people who have similar species individually. Best regards.

Do you have any tips for identification of Disocactus vs other epiphytic cactuses?

Well, the flowers and the shape of the stems are very revealing. Anyway, there are some very good experts here at iNaturalist, and by uploading the photo, with everyone’s help, you can identify the species.
