I know that there is the daily email that gets sent out based on account settings, but i was wondering if theres a way to receive emails live? For example, if my friend added an observation, is there a way to get a notification of it in the moment instead of waiting for the daily update? whether it be through app or email?
also, are there notifications on android/samsung app? when i check my settings app it says that all notifications are blocked and theres no way to change it
The features you mention don’t currently exist. Emails about your friends’ observations can’t be set to be sent immediately and there aren’t push notifications in the app.

And you can also browse/refresh your homefeed to see updates (at https://www.inaturalist.org/home when you are logged in)
Regarding the app notifications thing, have you tried checking your phone settings to see if you’ve given permission for the iNaturalist app to do notifications? I have an iPhone, but some of my apps have controls for this in both the general phone settings and the app itself. If the phone’s permissions are turned off, that might explain why you can’t turn on the app notifications at all
Slight amendment: by default, iNat does send immediate email notifications for new messages from other users.
iNat apps don’t support push notifications, you won’t be notified of activity on iNat unless the app is active and you are on the activity screen.
