Description of problem:

Identifier has entered and re-entered an ID for this observation without it recording. When I add a non-disagreeing ID, it is recorded as if the other ID is not there.

I see nothing unusuall. Can you explain in more detail?
The ID you set is equal to the current ID of the observation. It shows an old and new ID correctly.

I mean: What did you expect to happen? What should be different?
Or, did you not mean to withdraw?

There was no ID attached to the top of the observation. I don’t know how to get a screen shot with all of it. The problem has now resolved, as have others in the past when I added and removed IDs. How many of these are there, I wonder?

Next time you should report the problem before trying to fix it

It is often hard to be sure there is a problem at all if you don’t try to fix it.

If you are trying to fix something there is obviously a problem already, lol. To be more specific - the user should post a link to an observation with the ID missing in the heading before trying to fix it (if I understand the problem correctly).

My goal was to report the issue to iNat. I hope someone in IT has seen it. We’re trying to ID things that already have IDs

I was able to take a look at our backup from last week. As far as I can tell, the observation wasn’t indexed properly, meaning that when mpearlstein’s ID was added, the observation wasn’t properly updated.

I added and removed a DQA vote to force a reindex and the obseration now has a proper observation taxon with only mpearlstein’s original genus ID. Generally when this happens it’s probably a one-off without a systemic cause that we can really investigate and fix.

You can always force an observation to be reindexed by adding then removing a DQA vote, adding an ID, or faving and unfaving the observation.

Two options:

  • take multiple screenshots so that all areas of interest are covered. To me this is the preferable solution.
  • use the View menu on your browser to zoom out on the page and then take a screenshot that covers the area of interest.
