If obs has 20 photos, editing a photo creates duplicates then stops displaying photos after obs is synced

I’m having the same issue except that cropping one photo creates two or more duplicates of every photo, the crop settings aren’t applied, and none of the duplicates can be deleted. After going back to my list of observations and waiting for the app to finishing syncing, the same observation now has no photos at all.

I tried clearing the cached data for the app and nothing changed. I cleared all of my user data and signed in again and the observation went back to the original.

Nothing appears to have changed when I look at the observation on the website. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/19407403

Which version of the app do you have?

If it happens again, please send us log files from the app as soon as possible. To send log files, go to the About tab in the app and tap three times on the version number. You will then have the option to email the log files to us.

Version 1.21.3(470)
I will send that log file.

Thanks @jdjohnson it looks like your case has to do with observations that have 20 photos, which is the limit on photos for an observation. I filed a bug report here: https://github.com/inaturalist/iNaturalistAndroid/issues/978

(Note: I moved this bug to its own topic)
