How is it linked to privacy? I bet you, you will get harassed for just being online, it rarely goes offline as it’s not the aim of people doing it, they’re getting fun, not trying to kill you.

Revealing someone’s private address is sometimes part of the fun you mention.

For example: a teenager has quite a lot of personal info on Instagram and starts to get bullied, often at that stage their location is unknown. Then it comes to the point of doxxing where bullies find that the target has the same username on Inat and that observations point to a rather precise address: they will feel very smart to share that address…

Revieling can happen even if you will obscure everything on iNat, when Internet people want to do it, they’ll hack your school website or as regular check ip address, do stuff like this, nobody is safe if you have anything online.

Publicly accessible information on iNaturalist is available to be indexed by Google and other search engines. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is not something that iNaturalist has invested in, which is why it isn’t very high in many of the examples given above. I’m going to close this thread since the original question has been addressed and the general topic of search engine results and internet privacy is much broader than iNaturalist, and we don’t control the search engines.
