Incorrectly shown time

Thanks, I’ll let our devs know.

Now it’s doing the reverse, 5.59 a.m. shows as 17:59. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/116063253

Will this ever be fixed? I can’t properly filter observations for time observed, it’s very annoying.

We hope to look into it more this week, I’m sorry.

@fffffffff We released a fix that should prevent this from happening on future uploads, and we’re testing out a script that should fix most or possibly all existing observations affected by this bug. So until we run that script for real, any existing observations will still have the incorrect am/pm time, but it would be great if you could upload some of these photos again and see if we at least fixed the error in the uploader. It seems to be working for me.

Great! Will check it later!.)

OK, so we ran the script and it looks like both https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/114453949 and https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/113922817 are showing the correct time - can you confirm, @fffffffff?

However, https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/116063253 still shows 5:59pm/17:59 and it should read 5:59am/05:59, correct?

Are there any other observations that still have the incorrect am/pm?

Yes, all are looking fine right now, so it must be fully fixed! Thank you a lot!

I still see 5:59 pm here:

Oh, I missed that part of your comment completely, sorry, yes, it still shows it that way, but all from original type of error are shown correctly, I checked how they’re shown for particular days.

OK, we think we have a fix for those types of observations, which should be am but are showing as pm. Can you think of any other examples of those? We want to confirm that it works.

Hm, it’s still saying 17:59 for me, similar ones were from the same day.

As I said, we’re testing this out. We haven’t released it yet.

Some background: we have an iNaturalist test server that only iNaturalist staff can access. Anyting that’s done there is not done on the actual site that everyone uses. That’s where we test bug fixes and new features before we deploy them to the actual “production” public iNaturalist server. So for something like this, we’d run the script on the test server to make sure (as well as we can) that it works. So that’s why I wanted to know some other observations’ URLs, to see if they’re fixed on our test server.

Ok, you can check those from that day, obs shown as 17h are from 5a.m. and those shown as 13h are from 1a.m. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?on=2022-05-08&order_by=observed_on&place_id=any&subview=table&user_id=marina_gorbunova&verifiable=any

these observations show as if they were done at 1p.m., when it was 1a.m.
Should I correct those manually and it won’t happen again?
