Is this chiffchaff song as unusual as I think it is or does it happen all the time?

Can’t answer your question objectively, but I’ve personally never heard one sing like that before! Interesting that it is repeating the same theme (with slight variations) over and over. It’s quite the catchy melody as well… :)

From the brief jump down the rabbit hole of chiffchaff chatter they usually say their name chiff. chaff in a metronomic even beat…so this is not that!

Thank you for your comments! I posted a bold theory in comment #2 that was temporarily suspended so you could have missed it. Would like to hear your opinions.

There is one more unusual behavior by this particular chiffchaff: usually when you hear a chiffchaff singing you can easily spot it on the top of a tree. This one we have not been able to see no matter how we tried, even though we hear it regularly all more or less in the same place.

You may want to look into birds that mimic chiffchaff calls… I’m totally unknowing of birds in your area, do you also have willow warblers or great tits?

Yes we have both in plenty but in my experience their songs are very different from that. Well, I will keep trying to see it, maybe this will clarify things.

I mentioned them because they may be mimicking the calls
