Lepidoptera Taxonomy & Nomenclature - what reference?

The taxonomic reference for iNaturalist is, I believe, LepIndex by the BMNH. Is that correct? The taxonomic/nomenclature reference for iGoTerra is the GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility). There appears to be about 59% overlap of the Catalogue of Life with uploaded genomes…my question is whether a tool exists to translate/discover synonym nomenclature between LepIndex/BMNH and the GBIF? The taxonomic discrepancies between the two authorities appears mostly at genus level and is common at species level across Families of Lepidoptera. Thank you! Hoping to make some research I’m working on a bit less painful.

Maybe people who work on this group know better, but I haven’t seen this officially recorded anywhere so I don’t think it’s the case. See this thread:

per the Curator’s Guide

Unfortunately there are hardly any world authorities on any insect order, let alone all insects. When global authorities are missing, we refer to regional authorities such as BugGuide for North American insects or A Catalogue of the Butterflies of the United States and Canada or Illustrated Lists of American Butterflies (North and South America).

so the Americas use those, everywhere else is either other regional databases (eg Australian Faunal Directory) or the primary literature
