I have recently observed a beetle of this species, but I didn’t get a good picture (too blurry). I have searched for photos in iNaturalist and there are some very good ones (examples), but I couldn’t find any published in public domain, CC BY or CC BY-SA, the only licenses compatible with Wikipedia.
Please, if you have this species in your list of observations, upload a good photo to Commons to illustrate its Wikipedia article.
P.S.: Susanne has relicensed her images on iNaturalist in order to publish them on Wikipedia (thank you very much). We now have a photo for the beetle!
You could try DMing users who have a good photo for that purpose on iNat proper to see if they’d be willing to change the license for a specific photo to allow use on Wikipedia.
This is the boilerplate that i use when requesting that people change their permissions:
Would you consider changing the photo permissions to CC-BY (“Attribution”) for use on the article for this species on Wikipedia? You can do so, by hovering over the photo and clicking the “i” in the circle. Alternatively, you can upload it directly at this link: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard. Thanks for considering this request.
You could try that on a few of the observation which have good photos.
I agree that this is a good goal in general! But the proportion of iNat users on the forum is a very low one, so you’re more likely to have success for your specific situation by contacting specific users.
I have a photo https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/62186464 and you may use for Wikipedia but all I ask is you give a link to my iNat profile. It is a bit bad… Can you share a link to the Wikipedia article when you are done? Thank you!
We have already got a picture of the beetle Alphasida holosericea for Wikipedia (thanks, Susanne!). When you upload an image to Commons, it always asks for the name of the author and the source.
