Description of problem:

In iNaturalist camera mode, long pressing on the preview photos of evidence or attempting to rearrange the order of photos causes camera to enter a quick delete mode where delete icons appear on all photo thumbnails and clicking deletes the evidence. Usually I enter this mode on accident. Once activated I cannot exit this mode. All other buttons besides deleting the images stop working, however new images can be taken using the iPhone volume buttons. I can still swipe through the carousel of thumbnail photos. The app will sometimes crash after a while, or I have to completely close the app, losing the unsaved evidence photos.

This has happened multiple times over the last few weeks.

Step 1: Enter iNaturalist camera, take a few photos.

Step 2: Without exiting iNaturalist camera, long press on thumbnail images.

Step 3: Camera enters ‘quick delete’ mode. Delete icons appear on thumbnails, which can be clicked to delete evidence. All other buttons including Done stop responding, therefore can’t return to observation edit page or save evidence photos, so the evidence is lost.

Step 4: App crashes or has to be completely closed, evidence photos lost.

Thanks for your help :)

I can replicate, I’ll make an issue. I don’t think I’ve ever edited photos on this screen, just on the observation edit screen.

Are you tapping on one of the photos, or are you accidentally long pressing while doing something else?

Hi, just tried to get it to happen again, it seems like it only happens when I long press one of the preview photos in the iNaturalist camera mode, the same action that is used to rearrange photos on the edit observation page. Just tapping the photo hasn’t caused this issue for me before.

I was also able to return to normal camera functions without closing the app this time but I had to delete all the photos that I had already taken, so still losing that evidence.

In the particular instance in the screenshot, I had switched back to the iNat camera from the edit page to take another photo, and then I forgot to go back to the edit page before trying to rearrange the photo order. But I can also replicate the issue when opening the iNat camera to make a new observation, without clicking through to the edit observation page.

Hopefully that made sense and it helps!

This has been fixed in the new release, 1.0.20+ (210). Working for me.
