Many older observations without photos, when clearly there used to be?

So, if I include Casual observations in my search, and sort to show older observations first, a lot (but not all) of the older observations have no photos - but the comments suggest that there were photos previously.

In some instances the photo was removed due to copyright issues. I have noticed that the Identify modal dialog does not display the copyright removal notice, one has to click on View to see the observation in a new browser tab on order to display the notice. Perhaps this is one of the issues.

All of that one user’s photos are missing. Several things might account for it.
