I recently observed a meadow grasshopper tapping its front leg. Although I couldn’t hear anything my phones recorder picked up clicks and it seemed to be communicating with clicks from another one nearby. I haven’t noticed this before is this normal behaviour? I’ve also spotted two separate pink ones within my woodland this summer.

I’ve seen a few “mute” species make mandible clicking sounds over in the US. In these cases it seems to replace the function of a normal song. Couldn’t say for sure that’s what happening with yours, but it certainly sounds like communication of some kind (territory, or otherwise).
