It seems appropriate to recommend the Big Wet Rodent Day song on this day.
Itās a little known fact that Gerald is the great-great-great-great (etc) grandson of Muskrat Susie and Muskrat Sam.
Iām tempted to ID it as an elk or somethingā¦
Ah, I was wondering why I was getting so many notifications from Gerald.
Iām tempted to check it, but I donāt know if I want to put my computer through that trial again.
Didnāt Gerald crash the entire iNat server at one point?
Happy Gerald Day to everyone!
Thank you - now I finally know who and what Gerald is ā¦ and that apparently he has his own gravitational pull.
I donāt know what I was expecting, but I must admit that I am a big wet rodent fan.
No, it never did that.
Heās really the Chuck Norris of muskrats, isnāt he? Iām pretty sure last week Gerald staring at the sun is what caused it to hide behind the moon.
Feliz Geraldad!
My favorite comment from today:
āi was linked to this post with no warning and spent a solid chunk of my work afternoon reading through the comments. All hail Gerald.ā
I need to get more sleep; I read that in River Tam / Summer Glauās voice. And since this applies to Gerald as wellā¦
Same here. It only took my computer 6 seconds to load Gerald but it nonetheless refuses to allow me to add (of course to be immediately followed by my downvote) any new annotations or comments.
Random fact: Gerald sometimes feels like an armadillo, moo.
Edit: I just figured out I can still see the comments in the iNat email.
Best thing Iāve ever made, glory to Gerald

āThere once was a muskrat named Gerald
Who by many false IDs was imperiled
Groundhog and Wasp are just two of these cases
But luckily people came clutch in these cases
They saved oh Gerald so special and full of power
They certainly came at just the right hour
They commented, commented and commented some more
Oh I bet it will reach 2,000+ and moreā
Thank you Gerald for gaining such power
And saving iNat at itās darkest hour.
Amen.
can we just auto populate Gerald with literally all annotations that exist on iNat and then have a crowdsourced project to fill them all out correctly?
5 syllables, 3 syllables, 7 syllables, 7 syllables. This is not a haiku, it is freeform poetry.
We had a limerick earlier. I wonder if anyone can pull off a sonnet?
Gerald emits such a presence he will still show up in your notifications everyday years after you added an ID to his observation.
