I’m still a relative newbie here and haven’t checked the Forum for awhile, so Moth Week was a surprise to me. In fact, I’ve only recently come to enjoy moths and actively look for them, which is easy in some ways – all of our moths have to be diurnal! I live in the central part of Alaska, specifically the Fairbanks area which is less than 200 miles from the Arctic Circle, and we only just yesterday finished our 72-day run of 24-hour daylight/civil twilight. On the other hand, they’re hard to photograph because they’re often flying fast and erratically. There are several species that I initially thought were butterflies until joining and posting to iNaturalist. Here are two from this week, both new species for me. Thanks to @jasonrgrant for the ids!
Dark Marbled Carpet (Dysstroma citrata)
Rannoch Looper (Macaria brunneata)
