Need for front camera for iNat observations?

When I opened the in-app camera to make an observation in Next, I noticed that the camera switching icon is available in the lower right. Is that simply a built in iOS function that iNat is maintaining? I can’t envision an instance in which I’d need the front camera for an iNat observation unless a bug had landed on my face. A selfie with a bison? ???

you could use a front camera for shooting up at something from down low, such as getting the gills of a mushroom without having to pull it up. you could also shoot something that scurried over to the opposite side of, say, a bridge railing without having to climb over to the other side of the railing.

Even if there are very few instances in which that feature would be useful, there’s no reason not to have it!

I’ve definitely used it to photograph the underside of a mushroom cap.

Omg. I cannot believe that I never done that and instead have always tried to do it with the back camera. Such a great and simple solution for this problem.

With iPhone it is also useful to use the .5 on close objects. I highly recommend “playing” with it.

Thanks, I’ll try that. :)
For close objects I usually have a macro lens or a loupe with me which can produce amazing images.
