Description of problem: Outside of cell range, I tried multiple times to observe with the new iNat app, and sometimes it worked to open the observe/camera button, take a photo, and observe a plant. These uploaded easily when back in cell range. Other times the camera button took a long time to open, then it stopped working (black screen with spinning green circle). I gave up waiting and used the old iNat app.

Step 1: Open app (no cell or wifi).

Step 2: Press camera/observe button.

Step 3: Camera would not open. I could not make an observation with the app.

I’ve been having similar issues.

@alhooks13 which device are you using?

@lcunningham so does this only happen if you have no internet connection?

It’s an iPhone 12. I know it has some age on it but it is update with ios.

Which version of iOS is your device running? You can find that out by going to the Settings app on your device, then General, then About. Does it happen whether or not you have an internet connection?

Yes, so far only in remote areas with no cell connection.

iOS 26.2.1

Works well in internet range, did not work a few weeks ago when I was out of cell range.

Are you able to share a screen recording with help@inaturalist.org? Here’s how to make a screen recording: https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/take-a-screen-recording-iph52f6e1987/ios
