Obs. for a location using a name of a place doesn't work

Starting without a Default Search Place.
Windows, Firefox, https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?subview=map&taxon_id=130672
→ result: Worldwide distribution of Aizoon canariense.
Now trying to see only the Canary Island distribution of that plant by testing various entries for the location field:

  1. “Canary Islands, Spain” → result: “Canary Island Dry Forest” → is an existing place, but is not correct here b/c it comprises only 5 of 7 islands.
  2. “Canarias, Spain” → same wrong result.
  3. “Canarias, ES” → result: a very small area of Fuerteventura (custom boundary).
  4. “Canary Islands Archipelago, ES” (is the exact name of the place ! It works when it is used in my account settings as the Default Search Place) → result: a very small area south of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria (custom boundary).

So that’s not the way it should work.
My only idea how to overcome this mess would be to enter the place ID in the URL - but checking the place (https://www.inaturalist.org/places/canary-islands-archipelago) → I can’t find where the ID is hidden. Would be nice to know anyway !

there is no bug here. The location search bar is looking for names in Google Maps, and often will not find places you’re looking for. In particular, if you’re searching for a specific polygon which has been loaded into iNat previously as a KML, this isn’t the field to use. You need to search using this one:

from that link, click the Observations tab, scroll to the bottom of the page, then click the hyperlinked ‘View more observations from this place’, and that will take you to an explore page for that place, with the number in the URL: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=130979

OK - thx a lot
… not everything is self-explaining in iNat.

I struggle to think of ANYTHING that is simple or user-friendly or self-explanatory in iNat.

It’s a great platform that is changing the world, but I never hear anyone say that it’s simple or easy to use.

Thx again.
I’d like to add that before (for several years) there was no problem when I entered “Canary…” in the location field.
I wonder why I’ve got these strange results from google maps.now.
