Is there a platform similar to iNat that accepts video media for observations? I took some video footage of some spiders that were hard to take pictures of alone and was hoping that the video media would be better suited for spiders id.
You can always post a link to a video hosted on some external site (eg, Youtube) as a comment on an observation to help with IDing.
I’ve also seen people upload gifs on iNaturalist.
Uploading GIFs is generally disapproved of due to the memory space.
That’s good to know! Coincidentally, I was just about to upload a video from my trail cam of a coyote. Guess I won’t
it’s not because of storage exactly. it’s that if iNat had the means to support video, they would support actual video formats. they consider animated gifs annoying and a hacky workaround for video. not only do animated gifs not display across all iNat platforms (because they have never been officially supported), iNat staff have warned that if they were to someday convert images to a common format, the animation in gifs might not be preserved.
I post my videos Google Photos, Flickr, Vimeo, or YouTube and link to the video in my obsevation, eg https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/254065738
For folks interested in video hosting that isn’t corporate owned, there’s PeerTube:

I do a similar thing to @tiwane in that I have a YouTube playlist for iNaturalist observations. I create an observation on iNats using a single image and then link to the YouTube video. It is useful when not able to get a very good image as for example with this observation - https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/174082681
thank you all for the suggestions and just wanted to let you know that I decided to use youtube in which I just shared my first youtube reels and vids today of some observations that I have made just recently. heres the link to the youtube channel that I am using for iNat video documentation: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3vrFK_LE_AlIKXuJ_AvJoA
