Problems creating a new place

Hi all.

I know this has come up before but not for 5 year so there may have been admin changes since then. I’m trying to create a new place to link to a project that I have built - Gracemount Walled Garden. I’m new to Inaturalist but I have over 50 observations which was apparently the lower limit to being allowed to create a new place. I have also helped others contribute to another project at Lauriston Farm.

I want to define the place so that we can encourage people in the community we work in to build up a full picture of the biodiversity in their specific area and to tie it to the ecological work we do at Transition Edinburgh South. This will create a bassline survey for future biodiversity development work.

Can someone please guide me through the process of creating a new place? I cannot find a button at the bottom of the map in the places section of the website.

Thanks in advance

Rob

Can you share a screenshot of what you see?

I sadly have the site in German, but this is what it looks like for me. The button on the bottom right, where it says “Neues Gebiet hinzufügen” is the one you’re looking for.

For actually creating a new place, you need to have a KML file which you can create in Google Earth, for example. And apparently it also takes a few hours until observations in that place are displayed.

  • The link is not present.

the requirement is for 50 verifiable observations (not casual); you currently only have 48, your other 5 are casual grade.

currently, two of your observations are missing a location and date:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/227119756
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/227119756

if you fill in those details for those two, you’ll be able to create a place (may take a few hours to register)
