I also noticed this on Firefox just about ten seconds before I saw this thread.
also having this issue. it’s essentially unusable now. my usual use case of “can’t remember all the letters/digits at the trailing edge of a username” now gets no assistance from this. (I assume it’ll get fixed soon enough, just have to complain a little!)

A moderator could move that comment of mine to this thread please?
Just noticed it before seeing this thread as well.
The little list when I want to @mention someone - for the past few weeks, shows most with the usual tiny thumbnail.
But the odd ‘random’ one as a larger circular image.
For example @muha… (on iNat itself, not here in the forum)
Shows only https://www.inaturalist.org/people/meaw101 as a large circle. In a new tab the profile picture is about twice the size of the next one.
https://www.inaturalist.org/people/muhammad_a shows the expected tiny thumbnail.
There must be a reason why iNat displays The One with a larger image.
Also Chrome

I’ve seen this on Crome too
Now impossible to @mention without first finding out
Exactly
how a profile names is spelt - or _ or …
This has been fixed.
EDIT: apologies, I meant to write in this thread.
Rolling out?
I logged out, and in again. Still seeing the huge blurred ‘pictures’ with the name in a whited out font.
Sorry, posted in the wrong thread. This specific problem is being looked at.
I don’t think that is random, although I don’t intuitively know the reason. But that is separate from the problem being discussed here.
Sorry about this, folks. Mea culpa, and I just deployed a fix. User icons are a still a bit bigger than they were, but this time intentionally, and not absurdly big.
All good. Thank you!
