We are recording a multi-site tree survey using randomly generated co-ordinates across our valley. Some of the sites have a nil return. Is there a way, and is it appropriate, to make an observation using a nil return avatar and species labelled as ‘Nil return’?
You mean you want to record absence data? iNat isn’t really designed for that.
As @astra_the_dragon said, iNat isn’t really designed for recording absence data, but we do have the “Trips” tool which can help you out with it: https://www.inaturalist.org/trips But please don’t label anything “nil”.
If you want to record presence/absence data, however, I would probably recommend something like anecdata.org, which has more specific tools for that, from what I’ve been told.

That is what I suspected, we will have to find a different way for that particular data.
