Roll call! Names for specialist groups

I just saw this:

and even though I am unsure of the widespreadness (whee! I made this word up!) of its use, I intend to embrace the term wholeheartedly.

I definitely have seen and use “Fly Guys” for the Diptera experts.

Are there other names in play here? Share please!

arachnerds

Beeple!

Bird people call themselves birders, so we moth people like to call ourselves mothers, but saying “I’m a mother” doesn’t work in written form for obvious reasons… lol

Odonuts! (@Odonut)

Phasmily! (for the few Phasmida/Phasmatodea researchers)

Cephalopeeps

On the Forum, I have seen it hyphenated: “moth-er.” Still, I would opine that moth mavens are a subset of moth-ers. Mushroom mavens works, too, on the same alliterative pattern.

For the Formicdae: “Ant-omologists.”

What about “lepers”.

Only if we get to call the herpetologists “Herpies” too!

That kind of sounds like they have leprosy.

I like to sew, and people who sew are sometimes referred to in writing as sewers. Not good…

Mossersor or Bryologists for the moss lovers!

Mothman might work for the males. Moth-er for females.

I’ve heard ichthyologists and fisheries managers referred to as fish heads.

What I find unusual, though, is that we have the term moth-ers for moth enthusiasts, but no term that I am aware of for butterfly enthusiasts, even though butterflies likely have a bigger fan base than moths.

Ophies for Ophiologists!

And what about Heteroptera enthusiasts?

I think mostly saw it written Odonutters

You know the mycologists? They’re some pretty Fun Guys.
