iNaturalist will be offline for up to 3 hours beginning at 9pm Pacific Daylight Time (UTC-7) on Wednesday, April 9 (that’s UTC 04:00 on April 10). Click to see in your local time.
During this time, you will not be able to post observations from the mobile apps or interact with the website or API in any way. The iNatForum will still be active.
The timing will likely be most inconvenient for those in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. We apologize in advance for anyone who is inconvenienced. Please make other plans during that time.
Similar to past scheduled downtimes, this maintenance is required to better manage iNaturalist’s growing dataset but these behind-the-scenes improvements to the database will not be visible.
For those who really need to work during iNaturalist’s downtime, here is how I do field work without having a direct link to iNaturalist since I don’t have a cell phone with internet access.
When going into the field, I take a camera, paper notebook and pen. I record media (images, sound) with the camera and keep it on the memory card till I can access the internet. With pen and paper I record any other relevant information on each item, e.g. number of individuals seen or heard, location, etc. When I have internet access, I download the media and transcribe notes.
It’s a lot of work but it is a work-around for those who need it.
Now it says by 1:00AM PST. The link still takes me to the time as 21:00 PDT, but 1:00AM PST has still approx 30 minutes to go. The 21:00 PDT time was when the downtime started. It should, for you, end at 11:00 EEST.
EDIT: For me in India, it’s ending at 13:30, so now 15 mins to go, (for you it must be 10:45 EEST, I think).
