Description of problem
When going into the Places tab and searching the checklist for Acacia, it only pops up with a species which contains Acacia in the species name. I have to search Koa for two species within the genus Acacia which are referred to as Koa to pop up (Acacia confusa and Acacia koa). This doesn’t include the 6 other species of Acacia which are present in Hawaiʻi. I was planning on updating endemism/introduced status for plants here, but I am worried that this bug will have me miss significant numbers of species.

(please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.):

Step 1: Go to Hawaii, US on Places

Step 2: Search for Acacia

Step 3: Search for Koa

using the q parameter to filter for taxa on lists seems to be unreliable. it’s better to use the taxon parameter like so: https://www.inaturalist.org/places/hawaii#taxon=acacia.

although you can query taxa like this in the URL, unfortunately, it doesn’t look like there’s a user interface on the page to query for specific taxa other than the iconic taxa on the left side of the page. however, you could click the link on the left side of the page to go to the checklist page, and that page will have an interface to search for taxa. see https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/items-in-list-not-always-returned-when-searching-for-genus/59630.

Huh, strange! This does work, but I wonder why there’s no direct way to use the taxon feature in the UI. I like the place one better as it more clearly notates if it’s labeled as endemic or not at a glance, but I’ll use the checklist feature instead. Thanks!
