Species of older Observations missing from the checklist of a newer Place

Please fill out the following sections to the best of your ability, it will help us investigate bugs if we have this information at the outset. Screenshots are especially helpful, so please provide those if you can.

Platform (Android, iOS, Website): Website

App version number, if a mobile app issue (shown under Settings or About):

Browser, if a website issue (Firefox, Chrome, etc) : Chrome

URLs (aka web addresses) of any relevant observations or pages: Website

Screenshots of what you are seeing (instructions for taking a screenshot on computers and mobile devices: https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/):

Description of problem (please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.):

Step 1: I created a new place maybe a week ago: https://www.inaturalist.org/places/national-botanical-garden I allowed the creation of check lists.

Step 2: There are observations prior to the creation of the place listed at Observations. There are observers as well under People. However, the checklist contains only the species that were uploaded after creating the Place.

Step 3: When will the older observed species appear on the checklist?

I would also be interested in answers to this question. I got the same issue with a newly created place for my village :
https://www.inaturalist.org/places/mesplede-64
I did activate the checkbox for checklist, but the observations previously realised within the territory of the village haven’t automaticaly populate the checklist yet. Maybe there is a delay for this to happen ?
I read there that the checklist can be managed manually. So I begin doing this.
Thanks in advance for any hint.

Checklists are buggy and aren’t really the recommended way to view a list of species in a place. If you’re only looking for the species list, the best method is https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=200615&subview=table&view=species

Are you trying to use your checklist for other purposes, e.g. to set the occurrence status or establishment means?

Yes but the checklist has taxonomic order and statistics which is what I’m looking for.
I just remember that a project also have some basic taxonomic stats, but it’s not that usefull.

If by “statistics” you mean first observation and last observation, those were the reason for phasing out checklists – the database had a very hard time keeping up with those fields.

If by “statistics” you mean the bars on the right side of the page, I’m not really sure what you’re missing from the stats view on the project page? You want the data from the unobserved species or something else?

There is already a request to show the species list in taxonomic order on the Explore page, you can add a like to show your support here: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/ideas-for-a-revamped-explore-observations-search-page/8439/5

Well I like to browse the observations by taxa and dive within higher to narrower taxa. The check list does that just well.
I tricked the updating of my checklist by :

  1. exporting the old observations I wanted in (from "Explore > Filter > Download)
  2. then make a list of all species names of theses observation (which take me some playing in a spreadsheet and text app with reg-exp)
  3. and last import all these names in the checklist.

Also the checklist does it’s checklist job : to check wich species have been observed and wich not. Which is just fine in my case : I added more species to the checklist from regional surveys. So I can try to find more pokemons from the neighborhood.

If you want to add observed species back to the checklist, I would recommend https://jumear.github.io/stirfry/iNatAPIv1_observations_species_counts.html?place_id=200615&verifiable=true instead.
