I observed a duet of Carolina wrens and looked for a project for duets. There apparently isn’t one; the only “duet” I found is Duette, a word I knew only as a type of contact lens. Should I start a project? Should it be only for the birds, or are there other animals that duet (besides humans)?
In Spanish, is a duet of birds called “dúo” or “dueto”? I couldn’t tell from Wiktionary.
(1) I’d say it’s ‘duet/duets/duetting’ for the terminology. (dúo for spanish)
(2) as for other animals: Gibbons, Indris, wolves, bats and frogs may count too.
I agree, it’s a nice idea, tho I have no personal usecase for it :)
(3) Duette is the Plural form of the german word Duett. Maybe that’s the explenation :D
:)
It’s looks like the Duette project is referring to observations in an area called the Duette Preserve, maybe they are big on contact lenses there?
I don’t think there’s an existing project for duets but it’s a really cool idea!
Would the duets include bird mating dances or just songs for this project?
Adding to what @IDfanatic said, many insects also perform duets using acoustic calls as well as dances and bioluminescence. I’m not sure if including different animals and types of duets other than songs would be too broad for what you had in mind, but could be an interesting expansion of this project, or maybe an idea for a separate project?
I think it should be for the birds; gibbons and fireflies can go in other projects, and one could put an umbrella over them. I think I’ll create the project in the next few days.
On the new project page, there’s a place to put an icon. Where can I get an icon?
That’s a nice idea for project. I sometimes hear duets (usually wrens, like yours) but I have never tried recording any. I will try to keep it in mind.
