Strange order of suggestions for names when IDing

Over the last few months I’ve noticed increasingly weird suggestions when I type in a taxon name for an ID. I’m not sure if this is a bug, a purposeful change in behavior, or just the result of names changing. For context, I have my name preference set to scientific name first, then common name, and my language is set to English.

I usually type in a shortened name for a species to save time, but a lot of the time the first result will instead be a completely different taxon with a common name that matches my input, such as:

Here the first result doesn’t even match what I typed in at all (edit: sorry it does, I misread, but see the rest), and the second result result only matches through a synonym, with the first result that could best match my input being the third result:

Here’s another example showing how many results don’t match what I typed in (at least not as a current name; I don’t know who is trying to find “insects” by typing in “podo”):

Is there some setting I can change to make it only show me current scientific name matches, or at least prioritize them?

No, sorry, but there is a related feature request: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/prioritize-scientific-name-over-synonym-and-names-in-other-languages-in-species-search/23191

My favorite one is that there’s no way to search the moth genus “Pero” and get it to show up first because Domestic Dog is always the top hit when you type Pero. I’ve done what you did and found combinations of letters that bring what I’m looking for out, but some taxa seem impossible to get to the top of the search list no matter what you type.
