Swapping genus IDs back to family in a specific area

The true genus Ambrysus has recently been found to occur only north of Panama, per Rodrigues et al 2024. I would like to change all South American Ambrysus identifications back to family Naucoridae. I’ve tried correcting some observations just by placing IDs, but conflicting Ambrysus IDs remain. Does anyone know if there’s a way to do this? Thanks!

You can do this with a taxon split. https://inaturalist.freshdesk.com/en/support/solutions/articles/151000015337-section-d-how-to-respond-to-a-flag-requesting-to-split-a-taxon

You can create a discussion on a taxon flag if you want some assistance. Splits are some of the more complex curatorial tasks.

Currently there are only 17 observations from South America ID’d as Ambrysus. Probably easier to add individual IDs. Perhaps not all belong to Naucoridae.

You’re probably right, a taxon swap might be a little too complicated

Maybe easier, but not necessarily better if it leaves disagreeing IDs in place. By opening a discussion on the flag, the community of curators can work out whether all belong to Naucoridae.
