Target species by county

Is it possible to view your target species by county? I made a list but it excludes stuff I have seen elsewhere, so it kind of defeats the point. Is there any way I can make a true county target list? Thanks in advance. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?hrank=species&nelat=45.547451&nelng=-80.5861049&swlat=43.908001&swlng=-82.51861099999999&taxon_id=47792&unobserved_by_user_id=brightsgrove_birdgang&view=species

this will display only up to 1000 taxa, but it should do more or less what you’re asking for, i think: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/discover-how-many-of-the-top-100-most-observed-species-in-a-place-youve-spotted/66507.

there are other tools / methods, but they have other issues. so i’ll only describe the other options if you describe why the option above won’t work in your case.

Done.

You can copy and paste this into a google sheet and mark it down when you find it.
Here’s an example: Inat Missing Plants-Worldwide - Google Sheets

I’ve been wondering the same thing. @pisum Your link definitely doesn’t work for this. The results list a huge amount of species that don’t actually occur in the area queried and ignore the majority that do.

The solution may be to export a checklist for the county, export your observations for the county, put both in a spreadsheet together, and then use the spreadsheet “remove duplicates” tool to reduce the checklist to what you haven’t seen. The annoying thing about this is that there is no quick update. You have to do the full process again every time you want an updated list.

it sounds like you’re using the thing incorrectly.

Thanks! I tried again and I figured out where I went wrong before. I had the place code in but didn’t notice the drop-down selection under it and that I had to choose from that. So, it can show the place code in the search box as though that is what you are searching but, if the place is not actually picked from the dropdown choices, it will search the whole world.
