in regards to this red text whenever i go view more photos from a taxon page. such as

Each iconic taxa is assigned a color. The taxon name color in the photo browser and the color of the marker on the map depends on the iconic taxa.
right, that makes sense, i can see other types matching that colour.
however, it never looked like that before today, and I have been using iNaturalist for over a year.
i noticed the variable color styling on the name labels in photo browser on this page recently, too, and it struck me as odd. i thought the text used to be just a plain white or gray, similar to the styling on the project page’s observation photo browser. they’ve been making some changes to the photo browser on the taxon page, and the variable color styling may have been introduced unintentionally. assuming our memories are correct, and the change was unintentional, this would be a bug, but staff will probably have to speak to the intent. (some people do appreciate variable iconic taxon colors, even if unintentional.)
just doing a cursory comparison of the styles applied by the photo browsers in the taxon page vs. the project page, it looks like the taxon page inherits taxon class styling and the project page inherits observation class styling. if the taxon page used to inherit observation class styling (since it is an observation photo browser after all), then that could explain the difference. but without trying to do a more complete dive into the code changes, i’m not sure what the exact change could have been that would have caused something like this.
right, thanks for the attachment to that discussion. i do like how that one looks, the colours the main feed, but I have never had anything like that. thanks for the reply anyways!
Thanks for bringing it up, this is unintentional so I’ve moved the topic to Bug Reports. We have an issue made to fix it.
