Description of problem: New to the forum so not sure if this is the right category…a curator seems to have implemented a taxon swap of Cupido to Everes but now there are formerly “research grade” observations that are reverted to “needs ID” because of a couple issues. One is that “Cupido comyntas” records show as “inactive taxon” without having been auto-updated to “Everes comyntas”, such as this one: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/240624343
The other issue is anything with a “Cupido” genus-level ID that was subsequently improved to species-level are now no longer research grade: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/28195210
there are almost 70,000 observations of this species; the swap is still actively occurring/hasn’t finished yet, so this observation will update soon (big swaps affecting lots of records take a while to work)
For this:
I don’t think there’s a bug - it’s just a consequence of the taxon change. The new IDs disagree with the older, genus level ID now and CID is computed based on that.
Note that the taxon change still says:

These are called unintended disagreements, and the curator should have checked how many there were before committing the swap. I’m guessing there were enough that a taxon split should also be committed to bump those genus IDs. You can comment on the taxon change to see if that’s in progress.
Perhaps also linked to this swap, I have several observations that were research grade at species, both species IDs have now been swapped to the new name, but now the observation is “needs ID” again because it says there is only one ID (when there actually two). Odd. I’ll be interested to see if this self corrects. I tried faving an observation and then unfaving to see if that would make it update, but no go. Progress! Thanks for checking. Of my 9 observations of this species, 2 still remain at “needs ID” despite having two species-level IDs, but a few hours ago, it was more like 4, so the system does seem to be slowly updating things.
