There's a lot of bugs in iNaturalist

Assuming you mean software bugs, I would expect there to be some. I would expect iNat to have a large code set with the user interface, database and AI and networking components. One statistic says there are between 50 and 70 bugs per 1000 lines of code. I spent about a quarter of my life helping to develop mission critical software systems and it is hard work, requires a big budget to hire the talented folks with the required domain knowledge, and then there is all the testing and retesting needed for each fix because sometimes when you fix one bug you create two more in often obscure places.
